Q:

Dear 100 Hour Board,

I'm having some weird internet connection issues on BYU campus with my phone. I first noticed it when I recently downloaded Pokemon Go. ('Bout a year too late, I know, but hey, people are still playing! Apparently it's all just kind of underground now.) I can connect and play anywhere off campus, and if I then go onto BYU campus, I'm still fine. But if I try to connect while on campus, it fails. Every time. I just can't connect to the internet on campus with my phone. (My laptop connects just fine.)

When it comes to Pokemon Go, not a big deal. But there are other cases when it might be important, and mostly it's just really annoying. So what the heck is up?!

A:

Dear Magnemite,

Tech support questions like this are hard because I don't really have enough details to know exactly what you're talking about. I know that I can't trust the Wi-Fi on campus to work properly unless I'm actually inside a building. If you can't ever get your phone to connect properly, even when you have strong signal, I suggest you contact OIT. They can usually manually register your device to the BYU Secure network so that it doesn't cause any more problems.
