Q:

Dear 100 Hour Board,

What time period of your life so far has been your favorite? What things were happening that made it so?

-Me

A:

Dear You,

Interesting. My answer to this used to always be my freshman year. But I realized just now that I don't quite feel that way anymore. I guess I've changed since then.

Maybe fall 2015? That was a great semester. I had great friends and being in marching band was fantastic. I mean I still have great friends, but somehow fall 2015 feels like "the glory days."

A:

Dear me,

Now. I have a wonderful wife who loves me unconditionally, and I love her as well. We are expecting our first child and we are doing our best to be self-reliant. It's not the easiest time period of my life, but it has certainly been my favorite.

Dear you,

Hmm... I've thought about it, and rather than a specific time period, I've noticed that I have specific moments within time periods that I consider favorites. Things in life haven't been "mostly great" since I was young, and while I used to consider this negative, I think that's also the point of life. We're here to learn and find joy, and you can't have true joy without sadness. The good moments remind me that there's more happiness to come in the future.

Most of my favorite moments involve being around loved ones and being able to forget everything else for a while. Just off the top of my head, here are a few: holding hands with my first crush at a concert, writing a dorky murder-mystery for NaNoWriMo, spending the summer before my senior year at a condo in Midway, reading the Harry Potter series to one of my sisters, seeing Wicked live for my birthday, meeting my youngest sister the day she was born (and many subsequent days afterwards, like her first word or taking her to the movies), helping my mom with her Christmas stocking booth at holiday craft fairs, making cookies and watching Brooklyn 99 with my freshman roommates, seeing The Aquabats! in concert, going on late-night Denny's trips with my co-workers last semester, and playing Nertz with my friends.
