Dear 100 Hour Board,
I recently discovered the term for when music gives you goosebumps: frisson! Amazing right? Music has always been a very powerful force in my life and I'm excited to explore this concept more.
So, have you experienced this phenomenon before (I read that about 2/3s of people do)? If so, what are some songs/artists that give you frisson? Radiohead seems to do it for me..
Ooh, that is an intriguing term. I like it. As for what songs/artists give me frisson, "Taro" by Alt-J does partially because of the song itself but also the meaning behind the song. The band wrote this song to memorialize the love story between two twentieth-century war photojournalists, Gerda Taro and Robert Capa. Taro tragically died while photographing the Spanish Civil War, and Capa died several years later by stepping on a landmine. The lyrics describe Capa's longing for her until his death and their reunion in the afterlife. The raw emotion and poetry in the song just gives me chills.
You have finally answered one of the two questions I ever asked the Board. I had no clue there was a name for this (and the writers in 2011 didn't either). Thank you.
Needless to say, yes, I have felt this before. It happened more in my teens though. Maybe I'm becoming crusty and heartless in my old age.
I usually experience this when someone nails a note that they have to hold for a while. For some reason, that just seriously impresses me!
