Dear 100 Hour Board,
I've been hearing that there's a relationship between hormonal birth control and cancer. Is this true? If so, have there been enough studies to determine whether it's correlation or causation?
(I know y'all aren't doctors and I'm going to ask mine next time I'm in but I figured I'd get some background and start looking at the research now)
According to breastcancer.org (and this confirms what I had heard in some of my college classes), estrogen and progestin (hormones used in birth control) may increase the risk of breast cancer. However, according to that same article, unless there's something else that greatly increases your risk of breast cancer, the increase in relative risk isn't big enough to be a huge concern.
