Q:

Dear 100 Hour Board,

I've been keeping up on the podcast, Hollywood & Crime, which this season, its first, is about the Black Dahlia. I'm wondering, though, on Elizabeth Short how we know which injuries were sustained before death versus after death?

A:

Dear Mystery,

I don't know anything about that podcast, but the main differences between antemortem and postmortem injuries is that postmortem injuries generally don't bleed or get inflamed. There are some other complicating factors, but that's the general idea.
