Dear 100 Hour Board,
Silk pillowcases are good for your skin and hair. Are polyester satin pillowcases just as good?

I looked through a few websites to compare silk and polyester satin. Just to be clear, silk is a natural protein fiber produced by insects (generally the stuff humans use is made by the silkworm) and woven to make fabric. Polyester satin is a fabric created by weaving synthetic polyester fiber in a satin weave. The terminology can be confusing because satin refers to how the fibers are woven. Silk and polyester with a satin weave become the smooth, lightweight fabric called charmeuse, so the best comparison is actually between silk charmeuse and polyester charmeuse.
I looked through some forums, and, anecdotally, people generally seemed to prefer silk charmeuse due to its superior feel and breathability. But that's just the opinion of a few random people on the internet.
So which one is better? What it really comes down to is personal preference and affordability.
