Q:

Dear 100 Hour Board,

Would you say that all men have looked up pornography on purpose before? What percentage of guys have a pornography addiction (specifically LDS guys)? Not being judgmental at all, just curious what the percentage is. I had always assumed it was relatively low but am getting like 90% statistics.

-My Name Here

A:

Dear person,

I just looked and there don't appear to be any studies done about prevalence of pornography use among any LDS population in the past twenty years. Thus, we don't have any reliable information on this topic. The statistics you hear floating around are likely numerical representations of people's anecdotal experiences.

If someone can cite a real study that says otherwise, please feel free to submit a correction.

A:

Dear myn,

For what it's worth, I have never looked up porn on purpose before, so the percentage is somewhere south of 100.

A:

Dear you,

I realize this is not what you were saying, but I want to clarify that not just anyone who has looked up pornography on purpose before has a pornography addiction. Unless pornography use is extremely frequent and is affecting day-to-day life (missing important deadlines, causing notable behavioral changes, etc.), addiction probably isn't the right word. Someone who struggles with pornography and looks it up once a month, a few times a year, or who looked it up once when they were 14 doesn't have a pornography addiction.
