We've heard that one can calculate the temperature outside using an equation based on the number of chirps a cricket makes in a minute. Is this true? And if so, what is the equation and why does this work?

A: Dear my legs are killing me,
The equation is to count the chirps in 15 seconds and add 40. Its chirps speed up as the temperature gets warmer and slow down as it gets cooler.
