Q:

Dear 100 Hour Board,

What TV shows are you all watching these days?

-Haleakala

A:

Dear Haleakala,

I currently keep up with New Girl, Parks and Recreation, and The Office. I'm eagerly awaiting the return of Arrested Development (and Downton Abbey, for that matter).

This summer, however, I plan to get caught up on Psych and White Collar, re-watch LOST, figure out how to watch all of Community, and maybe even work on Friday Night Lights. And I'll probably shamelessly binge on Storage Wars with my brothers.

-serendipity

A:

Dear Haleakala,

Harry Potter, of course.

I don't care that it's not actually a TV show.  I'm sure it will be someday.

- Niffler

A:

Dear Cinnamon,

I watch an embarrassing amount of TV.

Current Shows I'm Watching:

  • Bunheads
  • Celebrity Apprentice
  • Community
  • Dance Moms
  • Go On (I can't stand Matthew Perry, but the supporting cast is fantastic!)
  • The Mindy Project (It looked stupid, but now it's one of my favorite shows)
  • Modern Family
  • The Neighbors
  • New Girl
  • Parks and Recreation
  • Suits

Current Shows I Have on Hulu for When I'm Desperate:

  • Drop Dead Diva (I've always had a few issues, but the last few episodes were way too weird. I hope it improves again)
  • Suburgatory

And shows I've removed from Hulu Recently Because I'm Not that Desperate:

  • Once Upon a Time (Why were Snow and Charming having martial congress in the living room when their daughter and grandson could (and did!!!) come home at any moment???)
  • Revenge
  • Smash

Old Shows I Watch Also:

  • 30 Rock (It just ended, so clearly it is now "old")
  • Arrested Development
  • Better Off Ted
  • The Mary Tyler Moore Show
  • Prison Break
  • Running Wilde
  • X-Files

Dear Haleakala,

I have two basic categories: "shows I actually like," which I watch regularly with my husband, and "shows that are OK enough, I guess," which I watch in fits and starts when I want something to entertain me while quilting, washing the dishes, or doing the more boring parts of my job.

Shows I actually like:

  • The Daily Show
  • The Colbert Report
  • Modern Family
  • Community (though this season has been disappointing)
  • 30 Rock (no more, alas)
  • Big Bang Theory (mostly for Mayim Bialik)
  • Saturday Night Live
  • Game of Thrones

Shows that are OK enough, I guess

  • Parks and Recreation
  • New Girl
  • Ben and Kate
  • Up All Night
  • The Mindy Project
  • Downton Abbey

I guess there's also a category of "completely brilliant shows I adore but have already watched" that would include things like Arrested Development and The Wire, but I'm not currently watching those (more's the pity).

-Petra

A:

Dear Haleakala,

Right now I'm watching weekly are Parks and Recreation, Community, Saturday Night LiveThe Mindy Project, Smash, and--whenever I can squeeze in a Netflix episode--Workaholics. As soon as they come back on the air, I will be watching Arrested Development and Royal Pains. The shows I watch random episodes of anytime they're on TV are What Not to Wear, Chopped, 30 Rock, Survivor, How I Met Your Mother, The Amazing Race, and any Vh1 Countdown. Also I watch too many NBA games, but I don't think those count as a show.

-Ace

A:

Dear Haleakala,

Gosh, when I used to write for the Board for real, I never watched TV.  Now I have a Netflix account, things are.... different.

Currently-enjoyed shows by Hermia include (but are not limited to) The Big Bang Theory, How I Met Your Mother, Doctor Who, Merlin, Parks and Recreation, Psych, Sherlock (so what if there are only a few episodes?  I can keep watching them...), Downton Abbey, Phineas and Ferb, and Stephen Fry in America (see disclaimer for Sherlock).

~Hermia

A:

Dear Haleakala,

So, almost none of these are shows I'm currently watching in the sense of discovering them for the first time, but usually if I need something, like Petra mentioned, to entertain me while I'm doing chores or boring things or, you know, cuz I want to watch one, I tend toward old favorites instead of new shows that I don't really like. So even if I'm not actively watching very many of these right now, as in, going through them episode-by-episode, most of them are taken under consideration if I just want to turn something on.

Currently Watching (there are episodes I haven't seen, but I plan to see them all at some point)

  • White Collar (yay for Mozzie!)
  • Stargate SG-1
  • Bones
  • Castle
  • Alphas (I've seen the one season that's on Netflix, but there are two.)
  • Once Upon a Time (I've seen the one season that's on Netflix)
  • Numb3rs
  • Lately I've started Medium, which in a lot of ways is kind of awful (the acting, the really weird depiction of the main character's marriage and kids) but has sort of fun storylines, so. I've only seen a few episodes of this, we'll see if it sticks. Nobody I know has ever heard of it, but there seem to be a lot of seasons and it only stopped airing a couple years ago, so apparently somebody watched it.

Old Stand-by List

  • The Pretender
  • The West Wing
  • Buffy/Angel
  • Dollhouse
  • Firefly
  • Psych
  • Auction Kings (if you watch any other auction show, you should switch to this one right now)
  • Sherlock
  • Alias
  • Invader Zim
  • Corner Gas

I think I have just been successfully introduced to Doctor Who, so that may enter the lineup sooner rather than later.

Dear Haleakala,

I am not at all ashamed to admit that my daughter and I watch one episode of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic about every other day during the week and we both thoroughly enjoy it.

-Sky Bones (who honestly can't decide which pony is her favorite, though her daughter absolutely loves Rainbow Dash)

A:

Dear Haleakala ~

Once Upon a Time.  Though, I'm about 4-5 episodes behind.  I just don't have time to watch TV!  Before that one I watched Merlin and loved it.  For awhile Yellow and I watched White Collar, but then Once Upon a Time took precedence.  Sorry, Neil.  I do miss you.  And someday I'll come back and finish catching up with you.

Akin to Sky Bones, I've also been enjoying bits and pieces of Bo on the Go, Backyardigans, Dora the Explorer, and Wonder Pets.

~ Dragon Lady

A:

A:

Dear Haleakala,

Wow, does no one else watch The Walking Dead? Feeling kind of alone here...

Lots of great stuff listed above. Some of my favorites (current and past):

  • Castle
  • Firefly
  • White Collar
  • Battlestar Galactica
  • Alias
  • Dollhouse
  • Frasier
  • Warehouse 13
I was enjoying FlashForward until it was yanked from Netflix. As long as they don't get too off color, How I Met Your Mother and The Big Bang Theory are enjoyable as well.

Arrested Development (my guilty pleasure)

A:

Haleakala,

I rarely watch TV, but somtimes I watch episodes online of The Office (still loyal), Downton Abbey (recently jumped on the bandwagon), and Degrassi (guilty pleasure that I won't give up because I've been watching it since high school, ten years ago).

-Vampiress

A:

Dear Haleakala,

I'm pretty stubborn about television shows. I try not to watch more than one at a time, but with enough persuasion I get pushed into other ones. Since I'm a cord-cutter, I'm limited to what's available online, which isn't really that much of a limitation these days! Also, I sadly have a history of really getting into canceled shows.

Currently Actively Watching

  • Rubicon

Awaiting New Episodes

  • The Walking Dead
  • Sherlock
  • Breaking Bad
  • Downton Abbey (I used to be ashamed to admit this one)
  • Legend of Korra
  • Firefly (hey, a guy can dream!)

Watching in Fits and Starts

  • Castle
  • Burn Notice
  • Once Upon a Time (I'm not really digging the second season)
  • Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
  • Arrested Development
  • Big Bang Theory
  • Young Justice

Will Watch if Presented No Better Option

  • 30 Rock
  • Revolution (the science...it hurts!)
  • Project Runway (totally Mrs. Democritus' fault)
  • SNL

Should be Watching

  • Community
  • Fringe
  • Justified

Gosh...I never thought myself a big TV watcher, but this list makes me seem pretty occupied!

-Democritus

A:

Dear Haleakala,

I can't remember the last time I watched a specific show at a specific time each week, but these are the shows I (try to) stay caught up on:

White Collar

How I Met Your Mother

Revenge

Pretty Little Liars

Two are shows my husband and I can/do watch together and two are shows that he judges me for liking.  Whatever.

I also may or may not watch The Bachelor/The Bachelorette when it's in season.  But if I do, it's in large part because I want to be included when friends/co-workers talk about it. (Slash I also like it.)  I've never been able to get into Bachelor Pad though.

Other than that, I mostly watch HGTV.  I've seen enough episodes of House Hunters, etc. to be able to watch it without sound at the gym and know exactly what's happening.  "Oh, wow.  These walls are really bright!  This is going to take a lot of work..."  (Or just a couple gallons of paint and a Saturday morning.)  "Honey, you know I really wanted granite countertops, but... I guess we could make these work."  (Your current kitchen is the size of a shoe box and this one, even without granite, is way better.  Pretty sure you can make it work.)  Etc.

Dear Marzipan,

I'm glad to see that your taste in shows is solid gold.

Dear whoever wrote this question (too much up-scrolling for an old guy like me),

What Marzipan said.

A:

Dear Haleakala,

I really love television and am glad to find I'm not the only one. Here's what I've got for you:

Current shows. I rarely watch television as it airs, or even within a few days after it airs, but these are shows I consider myself to currently watch since I do always intend to catch up eventually. Note: some of these shows are on hiatus, but are scheduled to return.

  • Burn Notice
  • Castle
  • Community
  • Cult
  • Doctor Who
  • New Girl
  • Parks and Recreation
  • Psych
  • Sherlock
  • Supernatural
  • The Mentalist

Shows on hold. These are shows I have previously watched, but stopped watching for some reason (got kind of lame, not enough time, realized the show would make more sense if I waited and then marathoned it all at once to pick up on clues, etc). There are plenty of shows I've given up on, but these are ones I may pick up again someday.

  • Bones
  • Covert Affairs
  • Downton Abbey
  • Fringe
  • Lost
  • Merlin
  • Numb3rs
  • Once Upon A Time
  • Suits
  • The Office
  • The Walking Dead
  • Warehouse 13
  • White Collar

Perennial favorites. There are many shows I previously watched and loved that are no longer airing, but these are the only ones I typically re-watch.

  • 30 Rock
  • Arrested Development (which, I suppose, also counts as a current show!)
  • Firefly
  • Veronica Mars

And while I don't really follow it regularly, I'm always up for a few episodes of Phineas and Ferb.

-Saint Seb

A:

Dear Haleakala,

Shows I'm currently watching for the first time/as they air:

  • GAME OF THRONES (I'm only a little bit excited about the new season starting)
  • Doctor Who, which I just started and love
  • Lost Girl
  • Nurse Jackie
  • The Clone Wars animated series
  • Adventure Time
  • RuPaul's Drag Race
  • The Killing
  • Arrested Development
  • Once Upon A Time

Shows I watch all the time and have watched countless times:

  • Buffy The Vampire Slayer
  • Veronica Mars
  • Battlestar Galactica
  • Dexter (okay there is still one season left, but it doesn't air until Sept. so I'm counting it. BECAUSE I CAN *manical laughter*)
  • Gilmore Girls
  • The O.C.
  • Kim Possible. No shame guys, I love this show.
  • Avatar: The Last Airbender/Legend of Korra

Mostly I love TV. I love being given time to fall in love with characters and being given nibbles of an underlying plot. I feel like it makes me think more than your average movie*. I am always open to suggestions about TV shows, so if you dear readers have any great suggestions, let me know!

-Watts

*Not to say movies don't/can't make you think, but I find that it is rare for this to happen - especially on the same level as a TV show.
