Q:

Dear 100 Hour Board,

I have some temple/garment questions. They say you can wear underwear under your garments during your period. What if you still get some period on your garments? Do you have to throw them away? How "dirty" do they have to be for you to throw them away?

Also do you have to wear a white bra when doing endowments, sealings or initiatories? Also I know that when you do baptisms you can't be on your period. Is that the same for the other ordinances?

A: Dear Female-type,

When I went through the temple, I was told that some details concerning the proper wearing of garments is left up to the individual as he or she seeks guidance from the Spirit. I think that your question falls into this category. It's pretty likely that you (like any woman) will have some staining issues at some point. Personally, I feel that it is respectful to treat the garments and try to get the stain out. If the stain comes out, I would continue to wear them. If the stain won't come out completely, I would consider retiring them. As long as you feel that you are being respectful of the garments and what they symbolize, you should be fine.

For your second question, I have always been under the impression that you should wear a white bra for endowment sessions and sealings. The letter I received from the temple prior to my own endowment told me that all underclothing worn to the temple that day needed to be white. Besides, I wouldn't feel comfortable wearing anything else - even with a slip, I would be worried about it showing through. As for what you should do for initiatories, I would just go to the temple to do them and ask the temple worker who is helping you. I've been instructed on this point a couple of times, but I don't want to get too specific on a public forum. The sisters working in the temple are always more than happy to help.
