Q:

Dear 100 Hour Board,

I've taken a few years of German classes, and I'm somewhat proficient at it. I'm looking for some books in German to read for fun. I'm not really good enough to read most German literature for adults, but kiddie books about the circus are not exactly the most stimulating. Do you have any recommendations for interesting books in German that have moderately simple language? Preferably ones available in the HBLL?

- Beanie

A: Dear Beanie,

Do you like Harry Potter? The HBLL has all of the Harry Potter books in German. Some other suggestions are Was Bleibt by Christa Wolf, die Zauberflöte by Emanuel Schikaneder (it's the libretto of the opera) and Siddhartha by Herman Hesse.
