Q:

Dear 100 Hour Board,

Hello, as a fan of the BYU Cougar Marching Band, I have recently found out that "The Cougar Song" is NOT BYU's only fight song. From what I've been told you have a songbook in your Archive Dept. entitled "Sing Songs of BYU, Yells and Songs of the Bringham Young University" which contains lyrics to some "lost" songs like "The Old Y Bell", "The White & Blue", "Fight, You Cougars", and many others. If you can find this book, can you please have someone email a PDF version of the book to me; that would be really great.

A: Dear Shane P.,

The exact title referenced in Board Question #32059 (I'm guessing that is where you found the title you were looking for) doesn't seem to be found in the current library catalog, but close matches are: Sing The Songs of B.Y.U. (Call number BX 8608 .A1 no.1629 in the Americana Collection in Special Collections), and Yells and Songs of Brigham Young University, 1900-1960 (Call number UA 330 in the Archival Manuscript Collection in Special Collections). As far as getting a PDF version of the book, you'll want to contact Gordon Daines, University Archivist (gordon_daines@byu.edu or 801.422.5821); he said Special Collections would be happy to entertain copy requests, once they know what you're looking for. There may be some intellectual property issues, but that can be resolved once he has a specific title to work with. While you're at it, you might want to check out all the other songbooks and fight songs listed here, on the Special Collections blog. The call numbers precede a short description, some of which include the song titles you listed. Good luck being the only person knowing those songs at the next football game--sing loud!
