Question #4553 posted on 03/29/2004 midnight

Dear 100 Hour Board,
Is there a way for trial/hearing information (i.e. verdicts, sentences, etc.) to be public knowledge? For example, if my friend went to trial for domestic violence, can I find out somehow what ended up happening at the trial, without asking her about it? How would I go about doing this? (Completely hypothetical)

A: Dear concerned sister:

All trial information is a matter of public record, unless the judge specifically seals the records, which is a rare occurance. All you need to do is to contact the courthouse where the trial took place and they'll help you get the documents.
