Q:

Dear 100 Hour Board,

All throughout my life I have been told to wear a white shirt while performing priesthood ordnances. Interestingly enough I haven't been able to find any written counsel on this. Is the official Church policy to wear white shirts, to encourage white shirts but anything is ok, or something else? I am fine with wearing white shirts, and I think dressing up for blessings and such shows a little extra effort, which can lead to the occasion being more unique. I just want to know what the Church's opinion is.

A: Dear Lavaeolous,

There is no official Church policy on wearing a white shirt, but it is strongly encouraged. In his article entitled This Do In Remembrance of Me, Elder Holland explains how a white shirt is symbolic and quotes President McKay where he strongly suggests that white shirts should be considered when administering in priesthood ordinances.
