Q:

Dear 100 Hour Board,

This is a follow-up to my earlier "why so young?" query about missionaries:

Why, exactly, do girls serve missions at 21, instead of at 19 like the boys?

--Kitty the Badger

A: Dear Kitty the Badger,

To encourage the girls to get married and have a family, because that should *generally* be their first priority (I know it doesn't work that way for everyone). If they're not married by 21 and don't have any propects soon for marriage and feel like the Lord wants them to go and they have a desire to go, they can serve a mission.

A: Dear Kitty Cat,

Also, can you imagine the problems if you had a bunch of 19 year old boys AND girls out there together? It may not be much of an age gap and there may still be problems, but I guaruntee they are less than they could be.
