Dear 100 Hour Board,
While reading the archives, I came across the terms "informal probation" and "formal probation". While I understand basically what they mean, I am confused on one point. Can someone be put on probation and still hold a calling and not take the sacrament? In other words, can the exact discipline be decided by the Bishop, or are certain restrictions applied every time, much like disfellowshipment?

I talked to my home branch president about this one. He said that both informal and formal probation are flexible. The conditions of informal probation are decided by the bishop or branch president. The conditions of formal probation, however, are decided by a disciplinary council. These conditions may include both negative things (such as not taking the sacrament or not holding a calling) and positive things (such as regular Church attendance, regular prayer, and regular scripture study).
