Q:

Dear 100 Hour Board,

What does New York mean? Russ told me that it was discovered by the germans in 1902 who called it 'Wolkenstadt' which means hairy ankles. But i don't think it is the truth.

A: Dear Benny,

New York was named in honor of the Duke of York. It's a new place named after an "old" place called York. Nothing terribly exciting. And the name York came from an old English word for a yew tree. Also not too exciting.

With a few exceptions, if the origin of a place name sounds to strage to be true, it probably is...
