Dear 100 Hour Board,
How do jump drives become corrupted? I mean, is it just a virus or something like that, or is it the hardware that breaks down?

A: Dear Unexperienced,

Well, it all starts when a little jump drive has its first swig of Coke . . . .

A: still working on this.

Dear Unexperienced,

The short answer is both. A jump drive is just like a disk, so it can be corrupted like any other disk. Things like physical damage, EM radiation, and Godzilla could damage or corrupt a jump drive. Viruses are not a problem, just scan it like a disk. Corruption can also be caused by removing the drive before deactivation, so make sure that you deactivate the device before you remove it.
