Q:

Dear 100 Hour Board,
What is up? Is it above or north (as in we went up to Salt Lake)or away from the center of gravity? What is up?
- Vertically Challenged

A: Dear V.C.,

Up is word to refer to a relative direction. Typically up is referenced based on the gravitational field you are currently subject to, although that is not always the case. Often north is referred to as up, probably because maps are printed so that if you want to read the text, north is up.
