Dear 100 Hour Board,
Everywhere I turn I see college students running. I myself tried running once, and hated it. It's painful and just bangs on my joints. I prefer riding my bike, but I know that mile for mile it isn't as physically demanding. My question is that on a flat surface, how many miles on a bike do I have to pedal to equal the same physical activity of one 8 minute mile running?
My best estimate of bike-to-running equivalent mileage is about 5 to 1, but over hilly terrain I would estimate about 4 to 1. This isn't necessarily an arbitrary number, by the way. I biked a lot when I had a running injury, and those were the distances I used.
