QDear 100 Hour Board,

What is the Utah "poof"?

Multiple pictures of multiple pople from multiple angles would be the most useful.

Thanks.
- BOC

ADear BOC,

I refer you to the facebook groups "Down With Utah Hair," "Stop the 'Utah Poof'," and "We Laugh at the Utah Poof." That last one has photos. This blog entry explains how it's done: you backcomb the hair on the crown and then use hair spray and a flat iron. Backcombing is the same technique used to make afros and beehives, and it is very damaging to hair. Here is an example of poofy hair, but the Utah poof is usually just on the front.
