QDear 100 Hour Board,

Does Turtle Soup have REAL turtles in it?

- Shredder

ADear Shredder,

Yup. And mock turtle soup has real mock turtles in it (like the one in Alice in Wonderland).

ADear Shredder and Katya,

I saw this question and looked up the picture again, without even seeing your answer, Katya. So if you're wondering what a Mock Turtle is, or you know, but you just like the picture, like me, I've included it.

ADear Shredder,

Turtle soup was a delicacy in the Creole cuisine of New Orleans. Many variations on that turtle soup are still made (with real turtles), but due to the Endangered Species Act of 1973, which protectes five different species of Sea Turtles in the US, the population of edible turtles declined. People decided to start cooking "mock turtle soup" that tastes like turtle soup, but didn't actually have turtle meat in it. From what I've been able to find, people seem to really like the taste of turtle soup. Personally, I think turtles are cute, and I don't think I could bring myself to eat one.

ADear Shredder,

Ahhhh! Please don't eat me.
