QDear 100 Hour Board,

There has been talk of the pools in the RB at BYU being shut down for a time.   Something about the fact that now there are supposed to be 2 drains in a pool instead of 1 (and BYU pools only have one).   Now I realize that all of the people who just like to go swimming there would be outta luck.   They'd either have to join a gym or find another pool somewhere.   My question is: what on earth would the BYU swim team do if their pools were shut down?   Even if it was just for a while and not permanently- they need to practice right?

ADear Krishna,

Boy, this situation just keeps getting more and more complicated. I talked with one of the lifeguards this morning about this and it seems there has been another change in plans, or rather they still aren't exactly sure what is going to happen to the RB pools.

Apparently last year the pools were supposed to close for two years starting with winter semester 2009 and undergo major renovations. That fell through because they didn't end up having the budget for it, but then these new regulations came out about having two drains. They were going to close the pools over spring/summer and start on the changes, but they just keep changing their mind! It looks like the RB pools will most likely stay open spring/summer and quite possibly this upcoming fall semester, but it's still up in the air since they are going to have to fix the drain issue sooner or later.

The lifeguard I talked to seemed a bit frustrated about the whole situation since they keep changing their plans (it is her job after all). She did tell me that when they do go ahead and close the pools, whenever that may be now, the BYU swim team will have to drive down to a pool in Spanish Fork that they have reserved for all of their practices. Sounds like fun to me.
